PANELS
Panels are an unexpected yet crucial element of MACROCK. Each year, open discussions and talks take place in one of the venues normally on Saturday afternoon. Most topics deal with important issues in college radio and the independent music community. Occasionally, topics extend to subjects loosely-related to MACROCK’s mission. These include war, politics, d.i.y. ethics, and grassroots organizing.

Screen prints for FREEEEEE
LOCATION: Laughing Dog (82 South Main Street)
DATE: Friday April 5th, 2013
TIME: 6:00-9:00pm
DESCRIPTION: Downtown would not be as pleasant without Laughing Dog. Family-owned and operated since 1990, this print shop does amazing work. On Friday, they want to invite you to head on down. Here’s how it works. You bring a t-shirt or an article of clothing, we screen-print one of two MACROCK designs on it. Designs by Jeff Guinn and Amanda Wilson!

How To: Radio Stations

DESCRIPTION: Ever wondered the intricacies of managing a radio station? Come see a panel of General Managers for a number of radio stations in the area come and discuss what it takes to maintain a radio station. They’ll discuss the various problems facing their stations and what they do to make them unique and interesting.

Running a Record Label: How and Why

SPEAKERS
- Joseph Steinhardt – the owner of Don Giovanni Records! Has released such bands as Screaming Females, Waxahatchee, Laura Stevenson, and the Ergs! and is also playing MACROCK as Modern Hut.
- Curtis Grimstead – owner of Rorschach Records and runs a physical distribution inside of the Rumors thrift store in Richmond. He also helped out with booking Best Friends Day in Richmond.
- Liam Fletcher – runs Spənuva, a nontraditional label based wherever that focuses on short run, handmade releases.
Screening and Discussion: From the Back of the Room

DESCRIPTION:
From the Back of the Room chronicles the past 30 years of female involvement in DIY punk, and has interviews with over 30 women from across the country, ages 17 to 40. Race, gender, sexuality, motherhood, class, and activism are all addressed in this film, giving a picture of how these women participate at every level of the DIY community, and how it affects their daily lives. Join us for a screening, followed by an open question and answer/dialogue with filmmaker Amy Oden, Michelle Northam (Sick Fix), and Alissa Straiter (Passengers).
